Upcoming Event

Creating dedicated funding streams for children & youth: Public budgets are a social justice issue.

Can your city or county pass a funding measure for underserved children and youth? For answers attend free symposium in LA.

Funding the Next Generation is coming south to LA. We are offering a free symposium on how to create local dedicated funding streams for opportunities and supports for underserved children and youth. We all know that how we allocate our resources is a true reflection of our commitment to social justice.

We will address:

  • How to assess whether your community is ready to create a dedicated fund?
  • What funding streams are possible – taxes, fees, budget set-asides….marijuana, soda, sales, entertainment, gross receipts.
  • Elements of a campaign
  • Leadership of parents and youth in developing measures and campaigns
  • What we’ve learned from polling
  • What we are learning around the state – reports on Richmond, Alameda and San Joaquin.

This is a convening for advocates, organizers, service providers, elected officials, civic leaders, policy experts, parents and youth. We will talk about revenue for early care and education, juvenile justice reform, afterschool, youth development, and family support.

While all are welcome, we want to particularly reach out to folks in the Southern part of our state who have not yet had the opportunity to attend our events.

Our goals:

  • Inspire a new generation of budget warriors and community leaders and activists to use the ballot to create sustainable local funding for opportunities and services to children, youth and families.
  • Help those who have been contemplating how to do this figure out next steps.
  • Connect folks with similar goals and in the same communities to each other – knowing it takes a village to succeed.

All Free: Speakers, Workshops, Lunch
